After months of hard work, the Edmonton Made team is excited to announce the launch of our very first gift catalogue!
Available next week, the aptly named Gifted will be an annual collection of beautiful, handcrafted products made right here in our backyard.
Containing 99 products by 42 Edmonton businesses and makers, Gifted is about connecting people to beautiful brands and industrious artisans. It’s about making shopping local easy, whether you’re an Edmonton resident, visitor or business. It’s about creating community.
In spring 2017, Edmonton Made issued an open call for submissions for the gift catalogue and received an impressive 278 responses. A group of business and design experts helped narrow these submissions and curate a selection of locally crafted products, which are divided into six categories: jewelry/apparel, books and stationery, artwork, non-perishable food, bath and body, and furniture/home accessories.
To decide on content for the cover of the print edition, we put you to work — asking the Edmonton Made community to vote on social media for their favourite product.
We are proud to feature Clo’s General Leather Co’s Weekend Warrior bag on the cover of our print edition. Kyle Closen, the man behind Clo’s, embodies the entrepreneurial spirit of our city. A welder by trade, he took a risk and turned his passion for leatherwork into a full-time enterprise after work dried up in the oil fields.
An online version of Gifted will go live on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at edmontonmade.com. This date marks Edmonton Made's anniversary. For a year, the Edmonton Economic Development Corporation program has supported and fostered local entrepreneurs and makers through storytelling, connecting them to resources and bringing them to new audiences.
A week later, on Sept. 25, we will release limited quantities of a print edition of the catalogue at our official launch party, part of Edmonton Design Week.
Join us at the Hyatt Place Hotel at 9576 Jasper Avenue, in the second floor lounge from 7-9 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 25 for the opportunity to taste, touch and smell this collection of beautiful products. Along with a short program at 7:30 p.m., the evening will be a way to recognize all things Edmonton Made and we look forward to raising a glass to celebrate! Please RSVP through Eventbrite.
If you can't attend the party, be sure to check out our Edmonton Made window installation in the historic Gibson Block building, across the street from the Hyatt, at the corner of Jasper Avenue and 96 Street. The installation will be in place through the duration of Edmonton Design Week, from Sept. 22-30. And while you're there, don't miss the opportunity to take in nearby Design Week activities, including Impulse and Loop by Nuit Blanche, an interactive light and sound art playground!
